About

Roots

Bharat’s rich cultural and historical traditions form the foundation of various art forms, including music, dance, and visual arts. These traditions have been passed down through generations, often through oral transmission, and are deeply intertwined with India’s diverse cultural heritage.

To promote and nurture these arts, to create a space for them, and an awareness of them in as many ways as possible has been an unwavering commitment of Citsabha Collective, and the seminal thought driving the organization forward.

ROOTS is our initiative where traditional recitals are presented in harmonious spaces, for audiences to experience, and take home the energy of the classical arts – be it dance or music.

Svadhyaya – Performing Arts Festival

On the 25th of February 2024, the Citsabha Collective presented the first edition of their signature performing arts festival titled “SVADHYAYA”. The term Svadhyaya, Sanskrit for Self-Study, embodies a process central to all art and a fundamental requirement for pursuing excellence in a chosen field. SVADHYAYA 2024, supported by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and NMDC (National Mineral Development Corporation), featured some of Bengaluru’s finest performing artists showcasing their work across five different classical dance styles.

The festival opened with an Odissi-Kuchipudi jugalbandi performance by the hosts, Shubha and Srividya. This was followed by a Kathak-Bharatanrityam jugalbandi with Vidushis Rohini Prabhath and Medhavini Varakhedi. The evening concluded with a Bharatanatyam solo performance by Vidushi Shruti Gopal, Artistic Director of the Upadhye School of Dance.

We make what we love

There is an unfailing charm to traditional recitals. They tether us to a past, are throbbing constructs that reflect a time gone, and wise enough to guide anyone who seeks with an honest heart. The future is certainly bright under the gentle light of tradition.
