About

Within

Srividya and Shubha had envisioned performing arts being taken to gated communities giving the residents and children especially, a more intimate viewing and understanding of classical music and dance. The idea was called

WITHIN. Through both performances and know-your-art workshops and demonstrations, residents of communities would watch and interact with the artists. These will be ticketed programs with the proceeds going to the artist(s) invited.

The “WITHIN” initiative also includes educational components such as know-your-art workshops and demonstrations. These sessions offer residents the chance to interact directly with the artists, ask questions, and gain insights into the creative processes behind classical performances.

This interactive approach not only demystifies the art forms but also encourages active participation and curiosity. By witnessing the passion and skill of the artists up close, residents can develop a greater appreciation for the dedication and discipline required to master these classical traditions. The program also serves as a platform for fostering cultural awareness and preserving these invaluable art forms for future generations.

story telling - janani murali

On 16th of March, Citsabha Collective presented WITHIN with artiste Janani Murali who brought her unique skills to the Cedar Woods Apartments community hall, Bengaluru for a vibrant story telling session. Her background as a Bharatanatyam dancer gave her storytelling the strength of gesture and expression which the residents and children thoroughly enjoyed. The event was held in collaboration with the Cedar Woods Apartment Owners Association.

DAKSHINATYA

On the 29th of April 2023, World Dance Day, WITHIN’s first edition was unveiled in Jal Vayu Vihar, Hyderabad through DAKSHINATYA – a celebration of South-Indian classical dance styles. DAkshinAtya featured three other talented dancers, Bharatanatyam dancers Poojitha Menon and Ketharani Indrarasa, and Kuchipudi artiste Sannidha Rajasagi apart from Srividya herself. All the four artistes are alumni of the Dance department at the University of Hyderabad.

We make what we love

There is a growing distance between the classical art forms and young children, especially those in urban settings. Through the WITHIN construct, we hope to bridge this gap and bring in more awareness about the arts in gated community spaces.
